Business Development Manager

SourcePro Search is conducting a search for an experienced Business Development Manager for our top-rated law firm client in their New York office.
 
The ideal candidate will perform business development and marketing activities of the firm’s Global Capital Markets and Real Estate practices.  The BD Manager will work closely with the Practice Group Leaders (PGL's) to execute the group’s business development and marketing goals. The BD Manager will report to the Associate Director of Marketing and Business Development and manage direct report(s) as assigned.
 
What You'll Do:
  • The BD Manager will serve as primary point of contact for assigned practice areas, supporting the group’s lawyers in their marketing and business development goals.
  • Seek to understand firm, practice and office goals and work to identify cross-selling opportunities and facilitate multi-disciplinary cooperation among colleagues.
  • Conduct research on existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry or market trends to develop best practices and aid in the development of BD plans, presentations and proposals. Understand and apply sophisticated marketing/BD strategy. Show vision.
  • Create and edit the following: Responses to RFPs, customized pitches and business development presentations. Web and print marketing collateral, including brochures, practice descriptions, biographies. Client alerts, newsletters and articles authored by attorneys. Directory submissions and industry award applications. 
  • Oversee regular updates of web and print marketing content, including attorney biographies, practice area/office descriptions, webpage, and related news items. Draft, review and edit brochures and other collateral for general marketing purposes and oversee collateral inventory.
  • Prepare, review and revise directory and award submissions, working with partners directly to submit responses in a timely fashion, and prepare analysis of results regarding same.
  • Collect and maintain representative matters, deal lists, client and industry lists for use in marketing materials.
  • Liaise with the firm’s communications team and PGLs on media relations and communications activities relevant to the business development initiatives associated with the practice area or office.
  • Draft press releases and work closely with PR Manager on press related items.
  • Read industry publications to remain aware of trends that may impact the firm's practice/industry and apply that knowledge to identify opportunities for promoting the practice/industry.
  • In coordination with Conference & Events Manager and Events Manager, manage all practice related seminars, CLE presentations and client-facing events. Evaluate and advise on new opportunities for the practice areas or firm as relevant.
  • In coordination with the Head of PR and Communications Managers, evaluate awards submission opportunities for relevant practices and ensure that practice groups lawyers are provided visibility on various media and social channels
  • Working with the Director of Marketing and Business Development and PGL’s, evaluated relevant sponsorship and speaking opportunities for practice group lawyers. Negotiate agreements and manage participation in sponsorships and directories in order to ensure that the firm receives the maximum return on its investment.
  • Supervise, train and mentor junior colleagues as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Professional experience with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience.
