Commercial Litigation Paralegal

SourcePro is conducting a search for a Commercial Litigation Paralegal, in Newark, NJ.

Job Description:
  • Conduct pre-claim investigation and initial case assessments;
  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions and legal codes to prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, etc. for use by attorney;
  • Experience with state and federal court filing, document retrieval, rules and procedures is required;
  • Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes;
  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices;
  • Aid attorneys with interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions and other discovery;
  • Extract, calculate, enter, and update due dates, case and docket information on CompuLaw database;
  • Knowledge and competence in calendaring systems, electronic filing in state and federal courts, and web-based research skills are critical;
  • File and retrieve pleadings manually and electronically. Trips to courts to file, retrieve and delivery courtesy copies of documents (trips to court on emergent basis);
  • Serve as a liaison between the trial team and third parties such as witnesses, clients, vendors, experts and courtroom personnel;
  • Conduct research using a variety of tools, including the accessing of private and public databases;
  • Monitor cases and conduct research on litigants, as well as, coordinate with outside vendors to obtain publicly filed documents;
  • Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, etc.);
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with court personnel including process servers and couriers.
 
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of experience as a litigation paralegal;
  • Knowledge of both New Jersey and New York court rules and procedures on both state and federal levels are a must;
  • CompuLaw experience a plus (if not, CourtAlert Calendaring System or E-dockets are comparable);
  • Working knowledge of the CPLR and FRCP;
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel;
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Must be comfortable working with a large volume of PDF documents;
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a very busy environment.
