Director of Legal Recruiting

KJM Staffing Solutions has a great opportunity for a Director of Legal Recruiting with our top ranked, global law firm client.  This role will be based in the New York office and will be responsible for developing strategies to further the firm’s legal talent recruitment initiatives. The Director will oversee the hiring of summer associates, entry-level associates, lateral associates, international associates and legal assistants. In collaboration with the larger Legal Talent team and the Recruiting Committee, the Director is expected to think strategically about recruiting initiatives and best practices for achieving the firm’s goals. The Director will report to the Chief Diversity and Talent Strategy Officer and will have six direct-reports in NY and some regional recruiting support to oversee.  A minimum of ten years of prior attorney recruiting experience at a law firm is required.
Core Responsibilities
  • Maintain a robust understanding of the firm’s practice areas, industries,  brand, markets, global strategy, and lateral-hiring objectives
  • Work with the Legal Talent team and Recruiting Committee to develop both short and long term strategies to help the firm achieve its goals
  • Oversee student recruitment efforts including campus relations outreach, partnering with career services, student group sponsorships, on campus and callback interviews, preparation and execution of the summer associate program, in addition to undergraduate recruitment for the Legal Assistant Program
  • Collaborate with the Legal Recruiting team to coordinate participation in the LL.M. job fairs to build a pipeline for the International Associate Program
  • Oversee lateral recruiting efforts including strengthening relationships with headhunters, thinking creatively about sourcing talent and ensuring the firm attracts and hires impressive and diverse candidates
  • Liaise with all relevant departments to achieve seamless onboarding and integration of new hires, including office services, technology and training, payroll, work authorization/visa acquisition (if applicable), etc.
  • Manage and provide direction to the larger recruiting team, including delivering ongoing feedback to aid in professional development and to ensure top performance
  • Ensure the team maintains thorough and accurate data so the department can provide detailed reports and an analysis of recruitment trends to the Recruiting Committee and other key individuals
  • Work with HR/Recruiting contacts in non-New York offices to ensure accuracy and cohesiveness in the recruiting process
  • Develop innovative and creative ways to disseminate the firm’s recruiting message, including helping with the creation and maintenance of the recruiting website, brochures and other collateral
  • Maintain consistent communication with the recruiting committee and lead committee meetings to discuss matters ranging from OCI prep and interview training, to the final review of summer associate performance and offer recommendations
  • Prepare and manage the budget for recruiting initiatives and the annual Summer Associate Program
  • Collaborate with Professional Development and Diversity & Inclusion teams on a range of programs and responsibilities that span the Legal Talent function
  • Stay abreast of changes in the industry and share competitive market intelligence such as hiring data and potential opportunities that could contribute to the firm’s growth
  • Maintain other duties as assigned

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – including the ability to tailor the communication style to a specific audience
  • Knowledge of the legal market and industry trends is important, as is a willingness to learn
  • A minimum of ten years of prior attorney recruiting experience at a law firm
  • A bachelor's degree is required
  • Must be technically proficient in a wide variety of software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Workday, viRecruit).
